Perimeter Institute

PI
The Perimeter Institute looks like a modern art museum.

So I just got back from visiting the Perimeter Institute as a prospective graduate student in Waterloo, Canada. It was really fantastic! For those of you who don’t know, the Perimeter Institute is a theoretical physics think tank in Waterloo, Ontario. They do a lot of science outreach, too; they’re responsible for the amazing Minute Physics youtube videos (check the links).

Anyway, the reason I  bring it up is that I just got back after a day of airtravel and thus my post will be delayed until tomorrow evening. Sorry about that, everyone!

  1. Hey Jonah!

Did you know the Canadian American and Mexican physics grad student conference sponsored by APS will be in Waterloo this summer? There are travel grants from APS available. It might be another chance to visit. Abstracts are due tomorrow, but you could always re-use one of your earlier presentation. See below.

Don’t forget to turn your abstracts in for CAM13 by Monday, April 15th!!!
Travel Grant applications are not due until June 1st, but you must
have an abstract approved before you can receive the travel funds!

For more information check out the CAM13 website:

    Hope to see everyone there!

  2. Thanks for the heads up, Hamilton! I may well attend this! I think I’ve actually made my decision to go to Waterloo, and I’ll probably already be in town when the meeting takes place.

Oh oops… Seems I’ve missed the abstract deadline. I spilled water on my computer last night, which derailed me writing a blog post.

    1. Ouch! I’ve done the water over the computer thing. Fortunately I just had to wait a day for it to dry out and it was fine. Even if you don’t present, like you said if you’re in town, you might want to stop by the meeting anyway. I’ve found APS meeting organizers to be pretty forgiving on missing the deadline by a day or so. I don’t know whose in charge, but you might try.
